Brett Gaither, of Byrne & Jones Construction traded his hard hat for a bicycle helmet, riding 500 miles to help raise funds and awareness for the City of Hope Cancer Center.

For years, Byrnes & Jones Construction has always given back to the communities it serves, donating both time and money to a wide variety of organizations. So when Brett Gaither, Director of Marketing at Byrne & Jones, asked if the company would back him on a 500-mile bike ride to help raise money for the City of Hope Cancer Center, the answer was a resounding ‘yes’.

Gaither first got involved in the Bike for Hope fundraiser in 2016 when one of his cyclist friends encouraged him and a few other St. Louisans to take part in the event that begins at Hewlett Packard headquarters in Palo Alto, California and finishes at the City of Hope Cancer Center in Duarte, California. It’s a grueling, but scenery-filled journey along the Pacific Coast.

This year’s event took place August 29th through September 2nd to help bring awareness to the leading cancer research and treatment done at City of Hope and raise funds to support their mission.

“Last year, there were 12 of us that joined forces to raise money for the City of Hope,” said Gaither. “This year, ten of us returned and we added two others to our team, combining to raise more than $60,000 that goes directly to the City of Hope Cancer Center. It’s a great cause and a great challenge to ride 500 miles in 5 days time,” added Gaither.

The construction industry has earned a reputation for their community support and involvement and Byrne & Jones is certainly no exception. Every year, the company supports a variety of organizations and events and whenever any of their employees are passionate about supporting a cause, Byrne & Jones is always open to helping out when possible.

Gaither raised more than $4,000 in donations and Byrne & Jones was the largest overall contributor. “It was great to have everyone’s support,” said Gaither. “We’re already looking ahead to next year’s ride and it’ll be great to once again know we can count on their support.”
