Interns wanted: Byrne & Jones seeks areas best and brightest at school Career Fairs

Construction firm will be visiting six colleges in Missouri and Illinois along with tech schools and high schools over next few months.

Byrne & Jones Construction summer interns play key project roles
This year’s summer interns at Byrne & Jones Construction featured students from a variety of midwestern colleges along with one local high school student. Any student looking for an internship that could lead to full-time employment at one the St. Louis area’s leading commercial asphalt, concrete and sports-related construction firms should mark their calendars when Byrne & Jones visits their school’s career fair this Fall.

“This is an opportunity to get hands-on experience either out in the field, in the office or in some cases, both,” said Danielle Rozycki, an HR Generalist at Byrne & Jones Construction.  “We’re looking for individuals that want to go above and beyond the norm,” said Rozycki. “Whether they’re pursuing a degree in business or engineering, this is a place where they can really shine.”

Rozycki emphasized that the available internships aren’t just for those in their junior year of college. “We’re interested in meeting with freshman and sophomores, too,” said Rozycki. “Many of our interns come back for a second year, gaining even more valuable experience.”

Here’s a current list of Career Fair dates where Byrne & Jones Construction will be on campus:

School Date(s)
University of Missouri-Columbia September 18 and 19
Lindenwood University September 19
Missouri Science & Technology September 25
Saint Louis University September 26
SIUE-Edwardsville October 3 and 4
SIU-Carbondale October 10

Byrne & Jones Construction will also be visiting area tech and vocational schools. “Crew members can be making $20-$30 an hour right out of school. This is a chance for vocational students to gain a real edge before joining the work force” Rozycki added.

Byrne & Jones will also be looking for potential interns at the high school level. “We’ve had at least one high school intern for the past two years,” said Rozycki.

So what’s the key quality all of these interns share – whether they’re from colleges, vocational schools or even from high school? “They’re all highly motivated and self-starters,” said Rozycki. “The number one thing we look for is someone who wants to push themselves to be the best. This is a place that rewards performance and believes in getting our interns involved right from the start. We’ve had a few interns actually act as Project Managers on job sites. Many interns have become full-time employees upon graduation and gain valuable on-the-job experience that prepares them to launch their career. If that sounds like you, we should definitely talk.”

Byrne & Jones had seven interns working on staff from a variety of different schools in the summer of 2018 including one high school senior. If you’re a student at any of the listed schools, consult your career fair board for further information.  Details regarding Byrne & Jones participation at area vocational schools, including the CCDI program, should check with their counselor while interested area high school students should consult with their guidance counselors about potential participation.
